Precipitated by a disagreement of unknown subject matter, Bill and Pai Mei had a brief fight, after which Pai Mei accepted Beatrix as his new pupil. Pai Mei was approached by Bill, who asked if he would teach Beatrix the secrets of kung fu. During his training, Bill learned that Pai Mei hated "Caucasians", Americans, and the Japanese, in addition to being contemptuous of women. He taught him the style of kung fu known as Bak Mei. A further reflection of his appreciation for Beatrix was his ultimate gift to her when he taught her the Five-Point-Palm Exploding Heart Technique, a technique he had not taught a single student before her. Pai Mei is adamant on imparting wisdom to his students as a way to not only teach them skills denoting to martial arts, but to mentally strengthen them as well. Even though it was seemingly a meaningless and overzealous lesson, it can be said that that Pai Mei’s goals were to ultimately build Beatrix’s character from the ground up. Evidence can be gathered from when he threw her food onto the ground in a fit of rage and then offered her his own food afterwards while explaining to her that eating rice with one’s own hands instead of using the proper utensils (chopsticks) was similar to how a dog or animal would eat although coming off as harsh, Pai Mei wished for Beatrix not to degrade herself and lower her standards due to hunger. After seeing Beatrix's tenacity in her training one could say, he came to like her as a student and cared for her. From Pai Mei’s perspective, he views anyone approaching him in need of a master as having a death wish naturally, he expects them to know precisely what they have signed themselves up for upon choosing to meet him in the first place.ĭespite his vicious demeanor and moments of aggressive preaching, Pai Mei was also a rather open-minded individual. So understandably, Pai Mei expresses visible surprise when those aware of that fact display before him even the slightest sign of insolence in response to his teachings.
